- The law for establishment of urban water and wastewater companies was ratified by the Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament) on Jan.01, 1991.

- The aim of these companies establishment is construction and operation of the installations related to distribution of urban water as well as collection, conveyance and treatment of urban wastewater in the legal boundaries of the cities in each province.

- Nature of water and wastewater companies is non-governmental and non-centralized.

- Guilan Province Water and Wastewater Company, private joint stock, was registered under No. 2667 on Oct. 15, 1991.
